Pre-op checklist for wisdom teeth removal
Use this checklist to prepare for your appointment. It covers fasting, medications, transportation, and what to bring—so surgery day is straightforward.
Quick answers
- Fasting: No food or drink for at least 8 hours before your appointment unless we tell you otherwise. You may take approved medications with a small sip of water.
- Medications: Tell us everything you take (prescriptions, OTC meds, supplements). Only take morning-of medications that we specifically approve.
- What to wear and bring: Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and short sleeves if possible for easier monitoring. No nail polish or fake nails.
- Ride home: You must have a responsible adult bring you, stay in the office during the procedure, and drive you home. You cannot take a rideshare or bus alone after anesthesia.
The day before
- Confirm your ride and time off: Arrange for a responsible adult to bring you, remain during your procedure, and drive you home. Plan to take the rest of the day off.
- Prescriptions: If medications were prescribed in advance, pick them up before surgery so they are ready when you get home.
- Food planning: Prepare soft foods and clear fluids such as smoothies, yogurt, soup, and applesauce for the first few days after surgery.
The night before and morning of
- Fasting: Do not eat or drink anything for at least 8 hours before your appointment unless we specifically instruct otherwise. Small sips of water may be allowed for essential medications—confirm with our office.
- What to wear and bring: Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Avoid jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish, fake nails and makeup.
- Arrival time: Arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time to allow for check-in and pre-operative preparation.
